Premium Outlets are just across the street! Fly into Norfolk International Airport (ORF), grab a cab to the hotel, and no need for a rental car!
Format: 5 Rounds, Swiss System. This is NOT a rated event. US Chess membership NOT required. One half-point bye if requested prior to the start of Round 3.
One single section for scholastic (grades Pre-K through 12th) players with little to no tournament experience. Players do not need to be members of US Chess and should be unrated. Exceptions will be made to allow entry for young children rated Under 300 who are struggling and need to boost confidence before returning to rated play. As entries max out, we will announce based on the mix of ages if we are going to divide the players into two sections or keep them combined -- see alternate prize structures below.
Entry Fees: $30 through Sat 9/16; $35 beginning Sun 9/17; $40 beginning 9/21 and onsite; HRCA will retain $5 for all withdrawals prior to Round 1 and refund the remainder. No refunds after Round 1 begins.
Registration: Online at www.kingregistration.com/event/ZofchakRookie; or onsite at the playing venue no later than 8-9:15AM Sun 9/24. Cash, checks, debit/credit card swipes, PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App accepted for on-site entries. THIS EVENT IS CAPPED AT 40 PLAYERS BASED ON VENUE SIZE -- WALK-UP REGISTRATION IS NOT GUARANTEED and NOT LIKELY.
Prizes: If all in one section: Trophies to Top 5 overall, Top 3 K-5, Top 2 K-3, Top K-1. Medals to all other players with plus or even score. Ribbons to the remainder. If divided by age, Top 5 overall in "Senior" (middle and high school), Top 5 overall in "Junior" (Pre-K thru 5th), Top class prizes by grade based on entries.
Schedule and Time Controls: All games will be played on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th ONLY. Rounds start at 10, 11:15, 12:30, 1:45, and 3:00. All games will be played at G/25; d3.
