5 round Swiss, open to 4 player teams with one optional alternate.
Choice of 2-day or 3-day schedules.

Team average (4 highest ratings – January 2027 Rating List) must be

• under 2200 for Open (Maximum rating difference between board 3 and board 4 is 1000; rating of board 4 will be adjusted accordingly)
• under 1600 for Reserve

An entire team may take up to two byes in any rounds; byes must be requested by end of round 2 and are irrevocable after the end of round 2.

Time Controls
Game/90 +30 sec increment from move 1. Rounds 1 and 2 in the 2-day schedule play Game/60, d5.

Entry Fees

• $200 per team if received USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 6
• $220 per team if received USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 13
• $240 per team online until 9:30am Feb. 19 and onsite.

Team changes onsite or after 6pm on Feb. 19, $20.

Individuals
…wishing to play, send $60 by USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 13 or $70 thereafter, and request to be put on a team. Note: we guarantee you will play, but can’t guarantee which schedule, which section, which board you will play, or the ratings of your teammates. Teams are formed the day of the event.

Schedule

• 3-DAY: onsite registration/check-in Friday, 5:30pm-6:30pm; Round 1, 7pm. Saturday, Round 2 10am; Round 3, 4pm. Sunday, Round 4, 10am; Round 5, 3:30pm.
• 2-DAY: onsite registration/check-in Saturday, 8am-9:30am; Round 1, 10am; Round 2, 1pm then merge with 3-day schedule for Round 3.

Prizes
Winning Open Section team qualifies for national playoffs.

• Top three teams
• Top teams with average rating Under 2000, Under 1800
• Top college team (all players in college)
• Top high school team (all players in high school)
• Top team composed of juniors (high school and younger)
• Top mixed doubles team (two women and two men)
• Top senior team (all players 50 and over)
• Top individual score on each board

Reserve Section Prizes

• Top three teams
• Top teams Under 1400 and Under 1200
• Top K-8 team
• Top high school team
• Top female team
• Top individual score each board

Special Prizes

• Best team name
• Best costume or theme (This will be held on Saturday.)

One-Day Booster Section

Saturday, February 20, one day only Time control: 4/SS G/60, d5 Four-player teams with one optional alternate Team average (4 highest ratings – January 2027 Rating List) must be U1000 Round Times: 10:00am, 1:00pm, 3:30pm, 6:00pm A team may take a bye in any round, byes must be requested by end of round 2 and cannot be changed after the end of round 2. A town hall for USAT-N Team captains will be held on Zoom the evening of Wednesday 2/17, and team captains will receive an email invitation.

Northern Blitz Championship
$1000 Guaranteed! 5-round double Swiss (two games with each opponent) Game/3, 2-second increment. US Chess rated. Will be held Saturday night at 8 p.m. or after USAT Round 3 (which begins at 4pm). More information and registration here.
