2024 Hawaii State Girls  (Grades K-12) Chess Championship

  • When: Sunday, May 26th, 2024, from 8:00am to 4pm.
  • Where: Washington Middle School Cafeteria, using folding chairs and tables.  
  • Swiss Pairing System: 5 rounds, non-elimination, rated by the US Chess Federation.  Membership required. (Note: may be fewer then 5 rounds if low player turnout)
  • Time Control: Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second increment.  (Clocks and chess sets provided at the event.)  
  • Keeping Score: Players are required to keep score until one player has less than 5 minutes.
  • Hawaii Representative:  The winner of the tournament earns the right to the represent Hawaii at the Ruth Haring Tournament of State Girls Champions at the 2024 US Open in Norfolk, Virginia.
  • Trophies: For top 3 individuals. Champion or Co-Champions' names will be engraved on the Hawaii Girl's Scholastic Chess Champion Perpetual Trophy
  • Tie Breaks: Players tied for titles will be proclaimed as co-champions. USCF standard tiebreaks will be used to determine trophy distribution.  A rapid playoff (G10 d5) will decide the Haring representative.
  • Family Pairings:  Family members will not be paired before the final round unless necessary.
  • Byes: Any player may have up to two, ½-point byes, if requested before 9am on Saturday.

  • 7:40  Check in
  • 8:00  Players meeting (required)
  • 8:10  Round 1
  • 9:30  Round 2  (might start earlier, please don't leave)
  • 10:50  Round 3  (might start earlier, please don't leave)
  • Lunch Break
  • 12:45  Round 4  (might start earlier, please ask TD for updated time before leaving for lunch)
  • 2:15  Round 5 (might start earlier, please don't leave)
  • 3:45  Awards
  • Registration: Register on the kingregistration.com link by May 18th to get the best rate. 
  • Entry Fee: Early Bird entry fee is $15 per player, $5 for additional family members if registered by 11:59 pm on May 18th. Standard entry fee is $20 per player, $10 for additional family members if registered by 11:59 pm on May 25th. (If the entry fee is challenging for a player or a family, please let us know on the registration form and we will work with you.)
  • Late Registration: Entry fee after 11:59 pm on May 25th is $25 with no discounts.  
  • USCF Membership: Required.  Check your expiration date, then register for USCF if necessary.

Note:  Want to warm up for the tournament?  Girls can also play in the Memorial Day Sectionals on Saturday, May 25th.  Your choice of rapid (15/3) or action (30/5) time controls.  You can play the morning (9:00-noon), the afternoon (1:00-4:00) or both.
