  • Open: USCF Rated and FIDE Rated, 5 Round Swiss, G/90+30
    • Entry Fee: $80 by 11:59pm on 9/30/23, $90 by 11:59pm on 10/28/23, $100 after 11:59pm on 10/28/23
    • Players without a FIDE ID intending to play in th Open section must request an ID from USCF by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/fCCTis7WgtJEb2rv6. Players who do not have a FIDE ID by 11:59pm on 10/27/23 may be moved to their rating appropriate section or removed from the tournament if rated over 1700. New players to FIDE events are advised to review the FIDE FAQ and which rules for tournament play change between USCF and FIDE rated events.   • Reserve (u1700): USCF Rated, 5 Round Swiss, G/90+30
    • Entry Fee: $60 by 11:59pm on 9/30/23, $70 by 11:59pm on 10/28/23, $80 after 11:59pm on 10/28/23
  • Booster (u1200): USCF Rated, 5 Round Swiss, G/90+30
    • Entry Fee: $50 by 11:59pm on 9/30/23, $60 by 11:59pm on 10/28/23, $70 after 11:59pm on 10/28/23
  • Scholastic (u900): USCF Rated, Single day 4 Round Swiss, G/25;d5
    • Entry Fee; $15 by 11:59pm on 9/30/23, $20 by 11:59pm on 10/28/23, $30 after 11:59pm on 10/28/23
  • Players in Grades K-12 may receive a $10 discount to play in the Reserve or Booster Section using coupon code K12NMO23. This coupon is not eligible for players in the Scholastic or Open section. Players must indicate grade when registering.
  • Up to 2-half point byes available if requested prior to the start of the first round.
  • This is not a norm event. Players arriving after 30 minutes of a round start time will be forfeited.

Prizes:

  • Open: 1st $350, 2nd $250, 3rd $100, 1st u1900 $75
    • Top four finishing NM Residents in the Open section will be invited to the New Mexico Closed Championship, if there is a tie there will be a blitz tiebreaker immediately after round 4; Prize money will be awarded based on finishing placement regardless of residency.
  • Reserve (u1700): 1st $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $75, 1st u1400 $50
  • Booster (u1200): 1st $250, 2nd $150, 3rd $50, 1st U900 $25
  • Unrated players are eligible for half of the Reserve and Booster section prizes.
  • Scholastic: Medals for 1st - 3rd place finishers based on tiebreaks. Positive score medals to all finishers with at least 2.5 points.

Schedule:

  • Open, Reserve, Booster, and Novice Schedule:
    • Saturday October 28th: Round 1: 9:00 AM, Round 2: 2:00 PM, Round 3: 6:00 PM
    • Sunday October 29th: Round 4: 9:00AM, Annual Meeting: 2:00 PM, Round 5: 3:00 PM
      • Elections for the 2024 NMCO Board will take place at the Annual Meeting between rounds 4 and 5. Any NM resident age 18 or older who has played in at least one NMCO ran rated event in the past two years may vote or run for the executive board
  • Scholastic Schedule:
    • Rounds 1-4 on Saturday, October 28th: 9:15AM, 10:15AM, 11:45AM, 12:45PM
  • Onsite Registration from 8:00-8:30am, Saturday, October 28th. Players who register after 8:30am may receive a 0 point bye for round 1. Players who register onsite without a valid USCF ID may receive a 0 point bye for round 1.

Registration:

  • USCF Membership required for all sections. FIDE IDs are only required when registering after October 18th in the Open section only. Online registration is open until 8:25 am on 10/28/23 at the following link or at nmchess.org
