Sections 

Open (open to all) and Reserve (Under 1800 or unrated by US Chess over-the-board Standard rating).
US Chess ratings used to determine sections, pairings, and prize groups for awards.
Both sections FIDE Rated - FIDE Laws of Chess will be followed. Only FIDE games allowable time controls will rated by FIDE September 2023 rating supplement will be used.

Round Schedule and Time Limits

• 4-day option — 9/1-4, Rounds 1-7, G/90+30, Fri: 7:00 p.m.; Sat 10:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m.; Sun 9:00 a.m.; 3:00 p.m. Mon 9:00 a.m.; 3:00 p.m.
• 3-day option — 9/2-4, Rounds 1-2, G/60,d5, then merge with 4-day at round 3: RNDS: Sat 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m.; MERGE: Rounds 3-7 G/90+30, Sat: 4:00;Sun 9:00, 3:00; Mon 9:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m.
• 2-day option — 9/3-4, Rounds 1-4, G/35, d5, then merge with 4-day at rd 5. Sun. 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30 and MERGE 3:00 p.m., Mon. 9:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m.

Byes: Up to two 1/2-point byes available to be used in any round must be committed by the end of round 2. No byes may be added or rescinded after round 2.

Note: it's possible to play one day only by playing the two-day schedule and taking byes on Monday.

Prizes: $15,000 unconditionally guaranteed!

• Open Section: Overall: $3,000-1,500-1,000-850-500; Under 2400: $500-350-200; Under 2200: $500-350-200; Under 2000: $500-350-200
• Reserve (Under 1800) Section: Overall:$1,500-700-350-200-150; Under 1600 $400-200-100; Under 1400 $400-200-100; Under 1200 $400-200-100.
• Unrated players qualify for top prizes only, not for class prizes.
• Cash Prize Distribution: All cash prizes - overall prizes, place prizes, section prizes or any other type of cash prize, are processed and paid digitally within 10 business days of the tournament end. Refunds for withdrawals are processed within 10 business days of the tournament's end.

• $125 online until 8/17

• $185 thereafter online or at the site
• Registration and check-in 4Day: Fri 9/1: 5:30-6:30; 3Day: Sat 9/2: 8:30-9:30 a.m.; 2Day: Sun 9/3: 7:30-8:30 a.m. (Check-in consists of verifying your wallchart information.)
• Entries after the cutoff receive ½-point byes for round 1 and if needed for round 2.
• Reentries for $80 to the appropriate section with appropriate byes if needed.
• $40 extra to play in Open Section with a rating of 1800 and below.
• $5 rebate for ICA members who join ICA before 8/31/2023 (annual dues $15 regular, $10 scholastic— join at shop.il-chess.org).

Withdrawals: To withdraw from an event, go to https://cavechess.cc/withdraw and fill out the form. Emails will be ignored.

Refunds: Go to the Terms and Conditions link above for the entire policy. Here are important points:

• Processing refunds is secondary to running the event without a hitch
• While we attempt to pay refunds sooner, our policy is to pay within ten business days following the event.
• In our standard refund policy, refunds take the following forms:
  

  • Type 1: A credit of the full fee towards future tournaments or events, or

  • Type 2: A refund of the fee minus the greater of a 10% or $5 service charge. This charge is necessary because entries include processing fees not refunded to us, and time is involved in processing refunds. This is why we also provide a full fee credit alternative.

Registration Corrections and Changes: Please verify the information before submitting the registration. For example, some browsers with persistent "autofill" tools have frequently overwritten a participant's name with the person completing the registration.

2. There is a $5 fee for each (set of) changes.
