Dates: May 6-8, 2022
Round Times: Friday, May 6: 7pm; Saturday, May 7: 10:00am, 3pm; Sunday, May 8: 10:00am, 3pm
Time Control: G/90 plus 30-second increment
Format: Denker, Barber, Rockefeller, and Haring (Girls) will be 5-round Swiss. All sections are US Chess rated and the Denker section is also FIDE-rated.
Entry Fee: $75 by 5/4. Additional $10 after that. There are NO refunds for withdrawing. Anyone who registers who is not on the invitation list will be withdrawn and refunded minus a $10 processing fee.
Prizes: The winners of each competition will be named as the Illinois representatives to the National Denker (High School), Barber (Middle School), Rockefeller (Elementary) and Haring (Girls) Invitational championships, to be held during the 2021 U.S. Open, from July 30th - August 2nd, 2022 in Rancho Mirage, CA. They will receive a $250 travel stipend to attend, payable after the event. In the event that the winner cannot attend the national event, the runner-up will be named the Illinois representative and will receive the travel stipend to attend the tournament.
The first-place winner of the Haring (Girls) section may choose to represent Illinois at either the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls or the Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational. The second-place player will attend the other. The $250 travel stipend is paid to the player who attends the Haring tournament. A $100 travel stipend is paid to the player who attends the Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational.

Please note that the success of these events is dependent upon all players showing up, as it is very difficult to find substitute players at the last minute. There will be no byes allowed. All players must commit to playing every round. Players who forfeit will not receive invitations to future events. Players are selected based on their ratings as reflected on the April 2022 US Chess ratings. Seeding for the tournaments will be made in accordance with the May 2022 US Chess rating list.
In the event that there is a multi-way tie for first place, the final determination of 1st and 2nd place for opportunity to represent the state at the tournament(s), will be determined by a blitz game. Details will be posted at the tournament by the tournament director.
