Nebraska Chess Rapid and Blitz Championships 2023:

Date:             December 9th, 2023

Location:      CPACs Building, University of Nebraska Omaha

Entry Fee:    $30 payable onsite from 8:30 am to 9:00. $10 entry fee for the U800 and U400 sections. The entry fee is waived if student or faculty at UNO.

Sections/Round Times/Time Control:

The U1200, U800, and U400 sections will run as a normal UNO tournament. If your rating is above 1200, you are encouraged to play in the rapid and blitz tournaments.

Sections: Rapid & Blitz, U1200, U800, U400.

  • Rapid and Blitz
    • 6 Rounds of 10 minute plus 2 second increment rapid
    • Lunch Break
    • 6 double rounds of 3 minute plus 2 second increment blitz
  • U1200 -- 30 minutes delay 5 seconds
    • R1: 9am or shortly after registration
    • R2: 10:15
    • Lunch Break
    • R3: 12:45
    • R4: 2:00
  • U800/U400
    • 4 or 5 rounds
    • Round times announced at the tournament. Lunch break will be announced at the tournament.
    • Clocks are not necessary, but please bring boards

Additional Information:

Boards and clocks must be provided by the players themselves. Scoresheets will be available, but it is not mandatory to use scoresheets for rapid and blitz time controls.

Prizes:

Prizes increase as the number of participants increase. The guaranteed prizes will be paid out even if the number of participants is low.

The winner of the Rapid and the Blitz will each win a trophy. The winner of each trophy must be a Nebraska resident. The only tie-break will be the common games. If two or more Nebraska residents are tied after the common games tie-break, then we will discuss a blitz playoff for the trophy on-site.

 

The U800 and U400 sections will be awarded medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The following tiebreakers will be used in the order listed below.

  1. Common Game
  2. Solkoff
  3. Modified Median
  4. Cumulative
