Taste of India and HRCA are partnering to run a chess competition in conjunction with Taste of India 2024.

There are four sections available for children of all ages and abilities.

Junior Rookie (students in grades Pre-K through 5 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)

Senior Rookie (students in grades 6-12 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)

Novice (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and regular OTB ratings below 500 or unrated)

Elite (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and regular OTB ratings 500 and up -- unrated players allowed)

The time control is G/25; d3, meaning each player has 25 total minutes to complete their moves, with a 3-second "delay" (grace period) before the clock starts counting down.  Games can last a maximum of one hour each.  We will play four rounds using the "Swiss" system, which is similar to a bracket system.  This is NOT an elimination event.  You will play all four rounds (unless given a bye for one round for an uneven number of players).

Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each of these four sections. Trophies will be presented at Taste of India.

Boards, sets, and clocks are provided.  Notation is not required in any section for quick time controls.

Schedule -- After Round 1, round start times are approximate / latest possible -- pairings will be "ASAP" -- as soon as a section finishes all games, they will be paired and begin the next round.

There will NOT be a New Player Orientation on site.  If you are new to chess tournaments, we strongly recommend you set aside time to view this recorded orientation prior to the tournament.   You will need this to Passcode to view the recording: sU=Zsi4V

There are a few administrative differences in this tournament from what is covered in the generic orientation, so refer to this page for proper check-in procedure, time control, awards, notation requirements, and schedule.
