Join us for a day of fun and friendly competition at the SETX Summer Chess Open! Whether you're brand new to chess or looking for a good challenge, this welcoming event is the perfect way to enjoy the game in a relaxed, family-friendly environment.

 

Who Can Play?

This tournament is open to kids, teens, and adults. Choose the division that feels like the right level of challenge for you:

• Beginner Division – For children who know the basics but are new to tournaments.

• Intermediate Division – For players (kids or adults) who understand the game and are rated under 1100.

• Open Division – For anyone seeking a tougher test or competitive experience.

Tournament Format

• 4 Rounds | Swiss System (no eliminations)

• Time Control: 30 minutes + 2‑second increment per move (30/2i)

• Estimated round times:

  • Round 1 – 10:00 AM

  • Round 2 – 11:15 AM

  • Round 3 – 12:30 PM

  • Round 4 – 1:45 PM
    (Times may shift slightly—plan to stay until mid‑afternoon.)

Half‑Point BYE Available
Need flexibility? You may request a ½‑point BYE to arrive late or leave early and still earn credit for one missed round.
