This is an initial announcement, some details may change.

Tournament details become FINAL on September 1.

INDIVIDUALS

Players register and play individually in the section appropriate for their rating or play up to a higher section.

  • Open prizes include cash - $200 and trophy for 1st, $100 and medal for 2nd; $50 and medal for 3rd
    • The Open first place award is in honor of Dianne McLaurin, former Forest Public Library branch manager (retired)
  • U1200 prizes include cash prize $50 and trophy for 1st and medals for 2nd and 3rd
  • U800 prizes include cash prize $50 and trophy for 1st and medals for 2nd and 3rd
  • U400 prizes include cash prize $50 and trophy for 1st and medals for 2nd and 3rd

TEAMS

  • Players may form teams with any number of players above the recommended minimum of four.
  • Each team player will compete in their respective section according to their rating, or play up.  
  • The four players with the best scores among their team members are used to calculate their team score. 
  • The first place team will win championship and those four members will receive medals and $100 collectively.
  • All teams will be listed on website in order of scores.

REGISTRATION RATES and DEADLINES

Early Bird Pre-Registration: $35 per player

Ends at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31

Regular Pre-Registration: $40 per player

Begins November 1, and ends at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6

  Onsite Registration: $45 per player begins 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7

No new registrations accepted after 9 a.m. Nov. 7


TEAM REGISTRATION

Players wishing to form (non-school affiliated) teams should designate a team captain who may register members together in one transaction.

School teams welcome -  Coaches/teachers encouraged to register students together in same transaction

 All teams must be registered by noon, Friday, November 6


** King Registration utilizes PayPal, Venmo, and credit/debit card payment methods.

King Registration is strongly preferred, but if different payment method is needed, please contact tournament director as soon as possible via email at scottcountychessclub@gmail.com. Email registrations will be accepted until 6 p.m. on October 29 if must be used.

In email, provide name, active USCF #, desired section, desired payment method. Payment must be received before email registration is complete. Email registrations must be competed by 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.  

Other electronic options include CashApp and Zelle. Paper check and cash on site methods are available. 

Make checks payable to the Scott County Chess Club.

* School teams may request any needed documentation for their expenses to business manager.


Registration and Check-in  8 a.m. until 9 a.m. 

All players must arrive by 9 a.m. so tournament can start on time.

* Registered players not checked in who cannot be reached by phone before pairing round 1 will be removed from tournament and will not be eligible for refund.

Welcome and Briefing of Rules  9:15 a.m.

Clocks will begin at appointed times for players not present when rounds start.

Round 1 – 9:30 a.m.

Round 2 – 11:30 a.m.

Round 3 - 2 p.m.

Round 4 - 3:30 p.m.

Awards (Please stay for awards if possible)

  • Byes due to inability to pair = 1.0     
  • Requested byes = 0.5 (make requests before start of round; maximum of 1 bye per player)
  • Players who have byes in the same round may request to play extra rated game.
  • Notify Director before tournament of any requests not to be paired with certain other players.

Tiebreakers   Ties will be settled by SwissSys computer program. Cash prizes will be split per USCF rules. Computer tiebreakers will determine trophy and medal recipients.


Important Notes

  • The tournament will be held at a different site within the park on the other side of the lake this year due to the usual facility being shutdown due to renovations.
  • Registered players will receive a pre-event email on Wednesday prior to tournament including important last minute details. For players who register after 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, we will send the pre-event email to you in as much of a timely fashion as possible, but you may also check the tournament section of our website for the details. 
  • Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs for lounging between rounds, there is no lobby; an outdoor patio is available.
  • Food options will be available on site via vendor. 
  • Skittles rooms will be available.
  • Players may use their own scorebook but tournament scoresheets will be provided if needed and may keep them.
  • If possible, please submit any requests for change of section by 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
