Join us as we return to over-the-board school team competition!  This event is open to all youth in grades Pre-K through 12.  You do not need to have a school team to play; you may play as an individual.  School team scores will be based on up to the top four individual scores in each section.  Minimum of two players from the same school in the same section to form a team.

This is a Swiss tournament of 4 or 5 rounds depending on number of entries, with a time control of G/40; d5 (each player has 40 minutes to make all their moves, with a grace period of 5 seconds before any time is taken off the clock each move).  This is not an elimination event.  You will play all rounds in a format akin to a bracket system (playing people with the same / close to the same score as you each round).

Sections are Elite (US Chess membership required; ratings 800 and up); Amateur (US Chess membership required; ratings U800); Novice (US Chess membership required; ratings U400); and Rookie (no US Chess membership required; not rated; unrated players with little to no tournament experience).  Notation is required in all rated sections and encouraged in Rookie.

Trophies to the Top 5 players in each section, Top U1000 in Elite, Top U600 in Amateur, and Top U200 and Top Unrated in Novice.  Age-based trophies may be awarded in the Rookie section, as well.  Medals to all other players with at least an even score, and Ribbons to the remainder of the players.  If entries are low, some sections may be combined for play but will be split back out for awards.  Trophies to the Top 2 school teams in each section.  If a good number of teams enter, more trophies will be added.  If entries are very low a week prior to the event, under trophies may not be awarded, and there may only be one school team trophy per section.  Enter early!

Section and prize eligibility will be based on the higher of your Online or Over-the-Board (OTB) Regular rating.  Note that by January 2022, we plan to revert to using only OTB ratings to determine eligibility in our events.

Check in between 8 and 9 AM.  Round 1 begins at 9:30 AM.

Games will be played in the 5th floor suite.  Skittles will be in a 1st floor meeting room.  Rounds will start on an "ASAP" basis -- as soon as all games in a section are complete, the next round will be paired and begin.  Sections in the same room will start at the same time.

Entry fee $20.  Deadline for advance entry is midnight on Thursday 11/4.  Late and on site entry (space available) is $25.

This event is capped at 100 players on a first come, first served basis.  There are currently over 250 students enrolled in our fall programs!  Don't delay!  On site registration is not guaranteed.
