Tournament Overview:

The Friday Night OTB tournament is a USChess-rated event for all K-12 students.
It offers a competitive yet welcoming atmosphere for all participants and is open to scholastic players of all ratings.
Current US Chess Membership is required to participate.
 

Tournament Details

 

Day & Time:

• Day: Fridays
• Time: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM (Check-in by 5:15 PM)

Sections:

• Under 1000 Sections: Usually, we have three sections: 700-999, 300-699, and under 300.
• Over1000+ Section

Rating:

- Players are placed in sections and paired based on their current USCF rating.

- Players may not "play up" to a stronger section.

- The tournament director will assign estimated ratings for players without a USCF rating or those with online ratings.

Time Control:

• G/30; d5 (Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay. Full game may last up to 1 hour.)

Rounds:

• The tournament has three rounds. All rounds will use the same time control (G/30; d5.)
• The Beginner Section may have four rounds if time allows.

Maximum Capacity: 76 players

• Please register early to secure your spot. 

Parental Guidelines:

• Parents are kindly asked to drop off and pick up their children. Parents are not allowed to remain during the event. Thank you for your understanding.

Entry Fee:

• $50 per tournament
  • Non-refundable.
  • Transfers are only available in case of illness or unforeseen commitments and if notified at least 24 hours before the start of the event.

No-Show Policy:

• Players who fail to attend without prior notification will be suspended from future KLC tournaments for two months.

Schedule:

• Round 1: Starts at approximately 5:30 PM. Please arrive by 5:15 PM.
• Subsequent Rounds: Begin on a rolling schedule after the previous round finishes in each section.
• End Time: Around 8:15 PM (Open Section may finish closer to 8:30 PM).
• Pick-up Time: 8:15 PM (Open Section 8:30 PM).

Bye Request:

• One half-point bye is available upon request. Please submit the request at least one day prior to the tournament.

Tournament Rules:

• All US Chess tournament rules apply.
• The tournament director's decisions are final.
• Notation: Required for players with a rating of 300+ (per Coach Kiki's policy).
• Electronic Notation Devices: Only US Chess-approved devices are permitted. Please refer to the US Chess Electronic Device Certification Policy for a full list of approved devices.

Equipment:

• Chess Sets & Clocks: Provided by KLC. Players may bring their scorebooks, but scoresheets and pencils will be available on-site.

After Registering:

• Check the entry list to confirm your registration. If your name does not appear, your registration is incomplete.
• To verify registration, Check “Processed Entries” 1 day before the tournament.

King’s Land Chess Club Policies

King’s Land Chess Club is a Nut-Free private club for KLC students. We aim to provide a safe, fair, and enjoyable environment for students to practice, compete, and improve their chess skills. We ask all members to treat others with respect and follow the guidelines outlined below.

Community Conduct Policy:

• Be kind, helpful, and forgiving.
• Avoid abusive, threatening, or discriminatory behavior.
• Refrain from trolling, hijacking threads, or posting irrelevant content.
• Do not discuss illegal activities.

Sportsmanship Policy:

• Show respect to opponents.
• Do not rush opponents during their turn.
• Avoid harassment, accusations, or offensive language.

Fair Play Policy:

• Do not accept assistance from others during the game.
• Do not manipulate ratings or match outcomes.
• Respect the game and avoid interfering with others' gameplay.

How to Show Good Sportsmanship:

• Be supportive and positive.
• Practice respect and self-control.
• Be willing to learn and improve.
