AIHR and HRCA are partnering to run a chess competition in conjunction with India Fest.

There are four sections available for children of all ages and abilities.

Junior Rookie (students in grades Pre-K through 5 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)

Senior Rookie (students in grades 6-12 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)

Novice (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and regular OTB ratings below 700)

Elite (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and regular OTB ratings 700 and up)

The time control is G/20; d3, meaning each player has 20 total minutes to complete their moves, with a 3 second grace period per move, during which no time is taken off the clock.  We will play four rounds using the "Swiss" system, which is similar to a bracket system.  This is NOT an elimination event.  You will play all four rounds (unless given a bye for one round for an uneven number of players).

Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each of these four sections. Trophies will be presented on stage at India Fest.  All players will receive a participation ribbon on site at the competition.

Boards, sets, and some clocks are provided. Bring a chess clock if you own one. Notation is not required in any section for quick time controls.  Parents, bring a camp chair if you are remaining on site.

AIHR cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the Competition or as a result of accepting any prize.

In all matters relating to a Competition, the decision of the judge(s) shall be final, and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.
