Schedule and Venue Information:

The event will be held on April 6, 2024.

Doors open at 10 AM.  Please arrive early enough to find parking (adjacent garages are approximately $13 a day; the MacArthur Center garage within walking distance is $1 a day on weekends!).  Admission to Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin is included for registered players.  Accompanying parents / siblings / guests will pay a group rate admission fee (see link below) and receive a wristband to enter the venue.  After 4/4 at 4pm, regular admission may be purchased at the Nauticus front desk.

Handicapped accessibility note:  Please be aware that access to the ship's galley requires the physical ability to climb up and down one short but steep ladder.  Players unable to make that climb can contact us in advance to make arrangements for an alternative assigned board in an accessible area of the ship or the Nauticus.

We will play a 4-round Swiss tournament at a time control of G/25; d3.  This is not an elimination event.  The Swiss system is akin to a bracket system, and you will play all rounds, with potential byes for uneven numbers.  The time control means that each player has 25 minutes to complete all their moves, with a 3-second grace period before the clock starts counting down.  Most clocks will be provided, but please bring your own chess clock if you own one.  Boards and sets are provided.  Notation is NOT required for ANY section due to the Quick time control.  For those desiring to take notation, score sheets and pencils will be provided.

To allow our players and their guests to explore the Battleship and Nauticus throughout the day, each round will start at a set time, so you know when to return to the galley.  While games are in progress, parents will have designated waiting areas - in the periphery of the galley for parents of younger players, or in the Nauticus auditorium for players old enough to transit alone between those areas.

  • Round 1 starts at 11 am sharp.
  • Round 2 starts at 12:15 PM
  • Round 3 starts at 1:30 PM
  • Round 4 starts at 2:45 PM

  • The awards ceremony will be held beginning at approximately 3:45 PM, with an aim to have all participants offboard the ship by 4:30 PM.  Every player will be recognized at the award ceremony (see below for awards structure).  Weather depending, we will do awards on the fantail of the ship.

Other Notes

We recommend you eat before arrival.  You can bring bagged lunches and snacks, but they MUST be eaten outside the Nauticus on the porch area.  There is a cafe in Nauticus, as well as food options within walking distance.  This is a quick tournament, so you will likely not have time to wander far for food between rounds.  Please do NOT bring camp chairs -- there will be ample seating in the auditorium.  Rather than bringing the usual items to keep yourself occupied between rounds, you are encouraged to explore Nauticus and the Battleship!
