Glen Allen Chess League, August Standard Tournament
Description: Kicking off the beginning of a monthly rated tournament series at the Glen Allen Publix off Staples Mill!
Location: Publix, Community Room @ 10250 Staples Mill Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060. The Community Room is upstairs once you enter Publix. Notice: In order to support Publix hosting this event, outside food is not permitted. Please support your local Publix instead and buy food onsite!
Dates: August 16 (Look out for our following tournaments coming on Sept 20, and Oct 18 as well!)
Format: Registration for this first event is capped at 40 players, sign up now! This event is either a 4-round Swiss, or converted to a 3-round Quad in case of low turnout...
If at least 5 players are registered for all 3 sections: G/60 D10, Swiss, Regular rated event, 4 rounds. Sections... U1000+unrated, U1600, and Open. Round 1: 9:00am; Round 2: 11:30am; Round 3 2:30pm; Round 4 5:00pm. If less than 5 players per section: Event will be a 3 round quad with same time controls and start times, 9:00am, 11:30am, and 2:30pm. USCF registration is mandatory to participate for prizes and must be done before registration.
Entry fee: $40 if pre-registered up to the night before the event. Anyone wishing to play up a section in the Swiss can pay an extra $10. Anyone wearing an RVA Pieces t-shirt gets $5 returned from their entry fee on-site.
On site entry fee: $50. Final registration closes at 9:00am to start the tournament on time.
Late entry fees are $60 and will be given a bye for round 1. The director must be notified before round 2.
Prizes based on event and entries:
Swiss
$1000 based on 40 entries. If below this number, the prize is scaled down.
Open - 1st: 250; 2nd: 150
U1600: 1st: 200; 2nd: 100
U1000: 1st: 150; 2nd: 100
Quads - If less than 5 per section
A quad is a group of 4 people, all playing against each other. These are grouped in similar rating brackets.
1st place: $100; 2nd place: $40
Byes: First round bye can be asked for in advance. Byes in the Quads are not allowed. Withdrawing from the Quad format is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED, as this ruins the experience for the rest of the quad.
