A community initiative in partnership with Houston Chess Studio

Unrated tournament, anyone can participate.

WHERE: Moody Park, Under the Basketball Pavilion (3725 Fulton St, Houston TX 77009)

FORMAT: 5 round Swiss, G/5;d0 

Rounds: 

At 10am, 10:30am, 11:00am,    

(11:30 Snack Break- SNACKS PROVIDED),

12:00 PM, 12:30 PM

SECTIONS: 

Pawns in the Park -- Limited Spots no entry Fees

Rumbling Rooks -- Cash Prizes!

Prizes: 

Pawns in the Park --1st Place Trophy, Medals for the Section

Rumbling Rooks   --1st Place $100, 2nd Place $75, 3rd Place $25

ENTRY FEE: 

Pawns in the Park (20 spots first come first serve)

Rumbling Rooks ($20 DONATION until MAY 15th, $30 DONATION day of event)

CHESS SETS & CLOCKS:  Bring your own if you are playing in Money Section (Rumbling Rooks)

CANCELLATION:  No Refunds

BYES: One ½ point bye available for any round except the last round.  The bye must be declared before the beginning of round 2.  No last round byes except for zero point byes.

RE-ENTRY:  You may re-enter immediately after round 1 and take a ½ point bye for round 1 for $10.

Community Chess Initiative

This tournament marks the launch of a Chess Table Initiative at Moody Park. Five permanent chess tables with benches will be installed beneath the shade trees near the swimming center. The Houston Chess Studio is proud to partner with the Friends of Moody Park to expand access to chess and help establish Moody Park as a welcoming public hub for the game of champions.
