Morning Quads &  Afternoon Blitz with CASH PRIZES

 

  • Date: Saturday, April 11th 2026
  • Place: Washington Middle School cafeteria, 1633 S King St. Honolulu, HI. 96826. 
  • Supervision: On-site supervision by a coach, parent or designated guardian is required for all players aged 13 and under.
  • Equipment: Clocks and chess sets provided at the event

 

MORNING QUADS TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

  • CASH PRIZES: Each quad (individual section of 4 players) will have a $40 cash prize to the top player in that section. If multiple players are tied with the same top score, the cash prize will be split evenly among them. Cash prize amount is based on at least 40-50 players. If participation numbers are lower, the cash prize may be lowered. Please spread the word and recruit!
  • Open to all players K-12 and Adults. Sections are created by USCF rating, not grade or age.
  • Time: Check-in is 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Quads will end by 1 - 1:30 p.m. **Due to the nature of quad tournaments, if you are not checked in by the end of the announcements, you will be dropped from the tournament**
  • Format for Quads: 3-round robin (every player in each 4-player "quad" section plays the other 3 players in their quad only once). Quad tournaments are great for players of all skill levels, especially for those who are newer to over the board tournament chess. It offers all players a chance to play others fairly close to their skill level and an opportunity to win the same cash prize amount as all other quad sections.   • Time Control: Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second increment (G/30+5).
  • Chess Notation: All players are required to write moves, except Second Grade and below (although recommended). Notation requirement is lifted when either player is under 5 minutes of remaining clock time.
  • Byes: No byes allowed in quads
  • SCHEDULE: 
    • 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Check-in
    • 8:20 a.m.  Mandatory players meeting
    • 9:00 a.m. Round 1 
    • 10:30 a.m. Round 2 
    • 12:00 p.m. Round 3 
  • ENTRY FEES: 
    • $20 fee if registered online (kingregistration.com) by 7:00 a.m. 4/11/26
    • $30 registration fee on-site (on-site registration closes at 8:30 a.m.)

 

AFTERNOON BLITZ TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

  • CASH PRIZES: All ratings and ages will play in one large blitz section, but cash prizes will be given out based on the best scores in rating classes. That way everyone has a good chance of winning money! The prize rating classes are: Open, U2000, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000, U900, U800, U700, U600, U500, U400, Unrated. USCF Blitz rating will be used. Cash prize amounts will be based on participation numbers, so please, spread the word! The more players we have, the higher the cash prizes will be. Section prizes may be combined at HCF discretion, especially if sections are not large enough to accommodate the advertised quantity of class prizes.
  • Open to all players K-12 and Adults (one big section).
  • Time: Check-in is 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Expected finishing time 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 
  • Format for Blitz: 6-rounds, Double Swiss (each player pays their opponent twice, once as white, once as black), non-elimination, uscf blitz rated.
  • Time Control: Game in 5 minutes with a 2-second increment (G/5+2). 
  • Chess Notation: Notation is not required for blitz
  • Byes: Any player may have up to two, ½-point byes, if requested before the start of round 4.
  • SCHEDULE: 
    • 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Check-in
    • 2:30 p.m.  Mandatory players meeting
    • 3:00 p.m. Round 1 
    • Rounds 2 - 6  announced on-site 
  • ENTRY FEES: 
    • $20 fee if registered online (kingregistration.com). Online registration closes 7:00 a.m. 4/11/26
    • $20 registration fee on-site. On-site registration closes at 2:30 p.m.
