2026 Metro Atlanta K-8 Team State Qualifier

Registration: $45 through March 10.

Registration: $55 through March 24.

Registration: $65 March 25 and 26.

Late Registration: $100 on March 27, by 11 PM.

Where: Berkmar High School, 405 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lilburn, GA 30047

When: Sunday, Mar 29, 2025. Arrive by 9:15am

Open to: All K-8 school students within the State of Georgia. 

Sections:  K-1, K-3, K-5 and 6-8

Format: Five round, Non rated, individually paired Swiss System tournament with a time control of 25 minutes per player with a five second time delay (G/25; d5).  Unless byes are requested, players will be scheduled to play all five rounds (This is not an elimination tournament).

For Sections K-3. K-5 and 6-8

Rounds: 9:30am – 11:30am – 1:00pm – 2:30pm – 4:00pm.  Awards ceremony ASAP after round 5.

Rounds: 10:00am – 12:00am – 1:30pm – Rounds 4 and 5 ASAP For K-1 section

Byes: Maximum two, zero-point requested byes allowed. Please specify when registering.  Changes: All changes must be received by 6 pm Saturday March 28th. Withdrawals must be received no later than 7 AM the morning of the tournament, March 29, 2026, to be eligible for a refund.

Awards: - Top five team scores will be counted towards team scores. Top 4 For K-1.  Team trophies will be awarded to the top seven teams in sections K-3, K-5 and 6-8.  Team trophies will be awarded to the top five K-1 teams.  Individual trophies will be awarded to the top seven in sections K-3, K-5 and 6-8 and to the top five for the K-1 section.  There will be NO County Champions.  Invitations to the State Team Tournament will be determined after the event, depending on space at the GA K-12 State Team Championship (scheduled for April 26)

Note: Advanced entry lists will be posted online. A final registration list will be posted in the tournament hall by 8:30am. These will show the players, sections, teams, and requested byes. We will pair round one promptly at 9:00am.

Photos: We will be taking photos of the chess players for possible publication on our website. Please email us if you do not want your child's photo used.
