2026 Georgia Senior Open Chess Championship

This event honors Senior chess players in Georgia. The top Georgia player will receive a $500 stipend to attend the 9th Annual (2026) John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions. Cash prizes may be won by players from other states.

 

Eligibility: Players must be over the age of 50 on or before April 19, 2025. Players must be GCA members with current US Chess memberships.

Format: 2-day USCF-rated event, 4-SS, Time-Control: G/90+30 inc.

EF = $75 online until April 17th. EF = $100 onsite.  Rounds: 10 am and 2 pm, both Saturday and Sunday.

Byes - One “½ Point Bye” is available in Rounds 1 thru 3. A “Zero Point Bye” is available in Round 4. ½ point byes must be requested in advance of 1st round before pairings posted. Zero point byes can be requested at any time.

 

Sections: – Open and Under 1600

Prize Fund: $2,000 b/27

Open Section: 1st Place=$600, 2nd Place=$400,3rd Place=$200,Under 1800=$150

U1600 Section: 1st Place=$300, 2nd Place=$200, Under1400=$150

Trophies for 1st Place Open Section, 1st Place U1600 Section, Top player over 80, Top player over 70 (Trophies available to GA residents only. Cash prizes may be won by players from other states.)

$500 stipend for top Georgia player to attend the 9th Annual (2026) John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions August 3-6, 2025 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Reimbursement given on proof of attendance of all rounds.
