A US Chess Rated Tournament in 6 Sections open to Nevada residents or Nevada students.

 

K-3 Championship (Open to all players in grades K – 3)
K-5 Championship
 (Open to all players in grades K – 5)
6 rounds
Time Control Game/25 minutes +5 seconds

Middle School Championship (Open to all players in grades 6 – 8)
High School Championship (Open to all players in grades 9 – 12)

5 rounds
Time Control Game/30 minutes +10 seconds
 

K-5 Reserve (Open to all players in grades K – 5 rated Under 300 or unrated)
K-12 Reserve
 (Open to all players in grades K – 12 rated Under 600 or unrated)
6 rounds
Time Control Game/25 minutes +5 seconds

 

Individual and Team Trophies will be Awarded!

All players will receive a participation medal.

The winner of the High School Championship section will represent Nevada at the Denker Tournament of High School Champions 

The Winner of the Middle School Championship section will represent Nevada in the Barber Tournament of Middle School Champions.

The Winner of the Elementary Championship section will represent Nevada in the Rockefeller Tournament of Elementary School Champions

 

All invitational tournaments will be held July 27 – July 30 in Norfolk, Virginia. Representatives will each receive a travel stipend from Nevada Chess after completing all games without a forfeit loss.

The top scoring player in each section will receive free entry to the International Youth Championship in Las Vegas June 8-9. Restricted to players born after June 9, 2009 and rated under 1800.

The top two scoring girls in each Championship Section will receive free entries to the State Girls Championship to be held on April 20 in Incline Village, NV. Each will receive a $100 travel stipend after completing all games without a forfeit loss. 

The second-place finishers in all six sections will receive an entry to a future one-day tournament of their choice at Bridgeopolis Chess in Las Vegas.  The high school second place finisher may choose the Thursday night series instead of a one-day tournament. Entry Fees (includes Pizza lunch, snack, and drink):

$40 before Feb. 2

$55 by Feb. 16

$70 before March 1 @ 4:00pm PST

$100 after March 1 @ 4:01pm PST

 

Refunds:

Refunds must be requested prior to 11:59pm on March 1 and will have a processing fee of $10 withheld.

 

Byes

Maximum two half point byes are available upon request. All half-point byes must be requested by 8:30am on March 2. Half-point byes for Rounds 4 or later are irrevocable after 12:30pm on March 2. If any player is unable to play any round for any reason, including withdrawals, please notify a tournament director or score keeper.

 

Teams

Two or more players from the same school in the same section automatically form a team.

 

Extra Lunches

Lunch for players is included in the registration fees. Nevada Chess will allow parents and spectators to order additional Pizza lunches at a cost of $13.00 each. To order extra lunches, please visit this Order Form

 

 

US Chess Membership required: you may join or renew at www.uschess.org 

Schedule: Welcome and announcements will begin at 8:30am. All players should be seated for Round 1 start at 9:00am. Subsequent rounds start about 15 minutes after the previous round ends. Lunch and snacks are included and will be served between 11:30 and 1:00. Players registering after 8:30 a.m. may not be paired for round 1.

The NEVADA STATE GIRLS SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP will be held at The Lake Tahoe School in Incline Village, NV on April 20. The winner will represent Nevada at the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions in Norfolk, Virginia and may be nominated for other Girls’ invitational events. Details will be published separately.

 

If two or more players in the same section achieve a perfect score in a Championship Section, the champion will be determined by a playoff.  Such a playoff may be played either in person or online.  If two or more players tie for first place in a Reserve Section or with any score other than a perfect score in a Championship Section, the placement of all tied players will be determined by tie-breaks as described in the Official Rules of Chess, 7th edition.
