Section Limits 

• Players with ratings under 200 (or Unrated!) as of February 24th, 2023
• Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade

Tournament Format:

5SS (non-elimination, play 5 opponents),

G/25,d/5 (IF a chess clock is available, clocks start at 25 minutes with 5 seconds grace before you start losing time each move). Note: If one player brings a clock and wants to play with it, the other player cannot decline to use it.

Round Times: 

Saturday: 9:15am, 10:30am, 11:45am, LUNCH, 1:30pm, 2:45pm Awards: 4pm.

US Chess Membership is mandatory! (this is a rated event).

Find your ID # and Rating, and see if you need to renew - Click here (Last, First and select California from pull-down menu). Need to join/renew? Join or Renew US Chess Membership here (Youth membership = $20/yr). If you have already played in a rated event, do NOT create a new membership - renew your current ID #.

SCCF Membership is mandatory! Register/Renew SCCF Membership here. ($15/yr). SCCF membership includes a subscription to Rank & File to keep you up-to-date on chess events in Southern California!

Event Entry Fee

• Last-Minute Entry (until 5pm Friday, March 24th if there is still room!) = $79
• $5 Cancellation Fee until March 19th. Then until 5pm on 3/24, $10. No refunds at all if you cancel after 5pm on Friday, March 24th. Only email will serve as a valid cancellation.

Awards

• Trophies to the Top 25% of players (15 if we hit the capacity of 60 players)
• ALL players who complete the tournament receive either a trophy or a medal on stage!
• Team Awards!!

 Rookie Camp - Friday night, 5:30-7:30pm - $50 or free if staying at Hyatt*

• Introduction to tournament play
• Rules reminders - Castling, en passant, promotion, 5 types of draws
• Endgame checkmates - Two rooks, Q & K Mate, R & K Mate
• Opening traps to try and avoid! (i.e., Preventing the 4-Move Mate!)

* One free camp entry per Friday night room night for the same family. Email jay@coachjayschessacademy.com by March 20th to claim your free camp entry.
