Wednesday, March 10, 2021, 9:00PM- This is the final deadline.
No additional players will be accepted after this deadline. Please do not e-mail corrections after this deadline as items will have been printed for TDs. There is no registration on Saturday morning or by e-mail, so please register by this date and time.
Friday, March 12, 2021- By this date, individual lists and team lists will be posted online to the tournament’s Google Sheets. (See below for more info)
Saturday, March 13, 2021-
Please see below for tournament schedule. Players are to be on www.chess.com/live at least 10 minutes before each round. Zoom Help Rooms will be staffed by tournament directors; Links will be posted on the KSCA State Tournament Page.
Qualifications:
-All players must meet KSCA Eligibility requirements. Info: KSCA Eligibility
-All players must have a chess.com account that is in good standing
-All players should filled out the KSCA Online Chess.com Club Form: KSCA Online Chess Club Form (Note: You still need to register for the tournament, even if you have filled this form out).
-No previous KSCA tournament attendance is needed to qualify for the 2021 Kansas State tournament.

Byes:
Players may request only one half-point bye for rounds 1-5 if done so with online registration.

Tournament Schedule:
All players should be ready to play by signing into www.chess.com/live , at least 10 minutes before the start of each round. They should not be playing any games before the start the round. Games will automatically appear if they are on the chess.com live page. The Chief TD is starting the games manually, so please be patient for all games to start. Players may take a break in-between rounds, so long as they return to www.chess.com/live before the start of the next round time.
K-8 & K-12 Section: K-3 & K-5 Sections:
Round 1 – 9:00 AM Round 1 – 9:30 AM

Format:
6 rounds swiss system, team-protected, Game in 30 minutes with a 5 second increment. The higher of the USCF/KSCA rating will be used for pairing purposes --- the chess.com rating has no effect on the pairings. Chief TD reserves the right to use accelerated swiss pairings if there are more than 64 players in a section. All players will play their games on chess.com live server which is www.chess.com/live

Individual Awards:
K-12 1st – 50th place

K-5 1st – 50th place
K-3 Every player will receive a medal
KSCA Tiebreaks: Modified Median, Median, Solkoff, Sonneborn-Berger, Cumulative, Coin flip. If two or more players are perfect scores (6.0) after 6 rounds, then a blitz playoff of G/5 will be used to determine places. All results are considered tentative until the chess.com has completed their fairplay analysis of the tournament; the final standings will be announced on the KSCA website.
- 1st place player in the K-12 Section, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the 2021 Kansas Denker Representative to the 2021 National Invitationals if they meet the Denker tournament qualifications; 2nd place, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the alternate. https://new.uschess.org/denker
- 1st place player in the K-8 Section, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the 2021 Kansas Barber Representative to the 2021 National Invitationals if they meet the Barber tournament qualifications; 2nd place, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the alternate. https://new.uschess.org/barber
- 1st place player in the K-5 Section, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the 2021 Kansas Rockefeller Representative to the 2021 National Invitationals if they meet the Rockefeller tournament qualifications; 2nd place, clear or by KSCA tiebreaks, will be the alternate. https://new.uschess.org/rockefeller
Trophies and Medals will be delivered by KSCA Executive Board members, which may take up to 4-8 weeks after the tournament. Parents & Coaches may elect to pay for expediated shipping and handling. Information will be posted on the KSCA State Tournament Page.
Tournament Event Rules:
- The main ruleset for this tournament is the US Chapter 10: Online Chess Rules. KSCA Tie-break system will be used as mentioned in “Prizes.”
- All players agree to play their game fairly, without the use of any assistance, including but not limited to, computer chess engines, databases, chess books, magazines, written notes and/or another person. Violation of this rule is subject to penalties, including but not limited to, forfeiture of game, forfeiture of tournament, and being barred all KSCA tournaments.
- While playing, players can only have chess.com browser open and the tournament Pairings/Standings page open --- all other programs on their computer, including notifications, should be turned off. It is highly recommended that the player does not switch to another program or tab while their game is in progress to prevent this “technical violation”.
If other programs or tabs are found to be opened, this constitutes a “technical violation”, and your player may be removed from the tournament and all games declared lost.
