About Mike Cardinale:

Mike has spent decades as a volunteer strengthening Chicago's chess culture and providing competitive opportunities for low-income students in Chicago.

Cardinale has been active in Illinois chess since 1997, starting as a coach at Gale Elementary School on Chicago’s north side. He went on to serve as a board member and officer of three major chess organizations. In 2002, he began a fifteen-year run as president of the Youth Chess Foundation of Chicago, running 86 free tournaments in all parts of the city. In 2010, Cardinale joined the board of the Illinois Chess Association (that's us), serving until 2014 as its Metro Vice President. Mike resurrected the Illinois Chess Tour, and he was a leader in efforts to upgrade chess programs in Chicago, working tirelessly with multiple Chicago Public School administrations. In 2014, he became one of the Chicago Chess Foundation's founding board members, and continues to serve as CCF's Treasurer and a member of the Executive and Program Committees.

Come join us to honor Mike's volunteer service!

Playing in the Chicago Class in Wheeling? Take a round 5 bye and come to the banquet too. Use coupon code WHEELING2018 to get a $10 discount on each player's banquet! (You must be preregistered for the Chicago Class to receive this discount.) You'll have time to win your Round 4 game, but you will need to ask for a half-point bye in Round 5. (You may not take clear first in your section, but you won't risk losing the money round!)
